The ADAPAC Board of Directors takes several criteria into account when determining which federal candidates should receive contributions. Criteria include:
- The candidate's past or present support for ADA's public policy agenda.
- The perceived need for the candidate's support in the future.
- The candidate's leadership position or committee assignment.
- The nature of the event associated with the contribution, if applicable.
Congressional committees with jurisdiction over ADA priority areas include:
- House Energy and Commerce Committee (Medical Nutrition Therapy, Obesity, HIV/AIDS)
- House Ways and Means Committee (Medical Nutrition Therapy)
- House Education and the Workforce Committee (Child Nutrition, Older Americans Act)
- House Agriculture Committee (Food and Agriculture Research, Food Stamps, Nutrition Monitoring)
- House Appropriations Committee (Nutrition Research, Federally-funded nutrition programs)
- Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee (Child Nutrition, Food and Agriculture Research, Food Stamps, Nutrition Monitoring)
- Senate Appropriations Committee (Nutrition Research, Federally-funded nutrition programs)
- Senate Finance Committee (Medical Nutrition Therapy)
- Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HIV/AIDS, Obesity, Older Americans Act)
- Senate Special Aging Committee (Aging)
